SipOffBeforeTipOff is a basketball pre-game tradition. It's a time to celebrate with friends and family. Grab a drink and raise a glass for your team.
We love watching players on the court, but what's even better is seeing the great stuff they do off the court. Here are some highlights from teams we follow:
This drink is equal parts 2 Docks Coffee Liqueur and 2 Docks Cream Liqueur. 2 Docks is made by Proof Distillery in Fargo. The secret ingredient is the big rock ice "bison", made from coffee instead of water.
Everyone has a favorite Bloody Mary recipe. Here is what Team SipOff likes to do:
Pour your favorite Bloody Mary mix (store-bought or homemade) into plastic ice cube trays. Freeze. When the ice cubes of mix are completely frozen, turn on the Traeger, or your brand of smoker, and leave it on the smoke setting. Pop the cubes out into a glass bowl and place the bowl of frozen mix cubes into the smoker. Let them smoke until the cubes are completely melted. Chill the mix. When you’re ready to make the drink, to a glass of ice, add: 1 part vodka and 3 parts Bloody Mary mix. Garnish with a lime wedge, olives, a dash of pepper AND a stick of homemade beef jerky!

If you order a Bloody Mary at the Summit Leage Tournament in Sioux Falls, it'll come with a beer chaser. #AndOne
To a shaker of ice add:
4 ounces of rye whiskey
1 ounce sweet vermouth
5 shakes of orange bitters
Drizzle of cherry juice
Shake to chill. Strain into a glass over a big rock ice cube. Add a Luxardo cherry or two and enjoy!
Notes:
You can buy silicon molds to make the big rock cubes in your freezer. Pop them into a freezer bag tokeep them on hand. And don’t skimp on the cherries. Once you have a Luxardo cherry, you’ll never go back to a simple maraschino cherry.
Pack these little bundles of energy for snacks on your road trip to the game! Achim also recommends taking them along in your golf bag for a quick energy boost between holes.
Peanut Butter Oatmeal Energy Balls
3 cups oatmeal – we use regular oats, not quick
1 cup creamy peanut butter
½ cup honey
1/3-1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
¼ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
Mix everything together. Roll into balls, about 1.5” in diameter. If the mixture feels too sticky, chill in the fridge for a bit before shaping the balls.
Store energy balls in the fridge.
Makes about 28 balls, and supposedly will keep in the fridge for 2 weeks, but ours have never lasted that long.
